Software Engineer
About This Role
Aligned Marketplace is a mission-driven B2B2C company transforming how self-insured employers connect their plan members to advanced primary care. Our platform helps employers reduce healthcare costs by up to 15% while improving outcomes for high-risk members, a rare win-win in healthcare innovation.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help build and scale the data and backend systems that power Aligned’s marketplace. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives on writing clean, performant code, bringing structure and reliability to fast-moving projects, and solving complex data problems.
A unique opportunity: We've built strong foundations using modern data engineering tools (Snowflake, Dagster, dbt) and are now transitioning to full-scale application development. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to shaping our technical architecture and evaluating tools and frameworks as we scale.
You’ll join a small but growing technical team with meaningful autonomy to work on well-scoped problems, design solutions, and implement them end-to-end. If you’re energized by building reliable, scalable software that improves real-world health outcomes, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make an impact.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Python / Node.js
- Architect efficient data flows, optimize complex queries, and design scalable schemas for high-volume data
- Contribute to technical decisions on frameworks, tools, and infrastructure as we scale our platform, in partnership with senior engineers
- Build and optimize data pipelines and integrations with healthcare data sources
- Implement robust data security practices to ensure compliance and protect sensitive information
- Contribute to the architecture and scalability of our core platform
- Own well-scoped projects from design through implementation, with support from senior engineers
- Collaborate closely with product and data teams to deliver new features and improvements
- Participate in code reviews and share best practices with teammates
- Maintain high engineering standards required for healthcare systems, including data accuracy, reliability, and HIPAA compliance
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including query optimization, schema design, and data modeling
- Proficiency with Python or Node.js, with interest in working across both over time
- Experience with data security best practices and compliance requirements
- NYC-based or able to commute 2–3 days per week
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
- Proven ability to work independently on well-scoped problems and navigate some ambiguity
- Excitement about contributing to technical direction in a growing engineering organization
Bonus Points For
- Experience with data pipelines / ETL (e.g., Fivetran, dbt, Snowflake, Dagster)
- Exposure to startup environments
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools
- Previous experience in health tech or healthcare data systems
