We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale the data and backend systems that power Aligned’s marketplace. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives on writing clean, performant code, bringing structure and reliability to fast-moving projects, and solving complex data problems.

‍A unique opportunity: We've built strong foundations using modern data engineering tools (Snowflake, Dagster, dbt) and are now transitioning to full-scale application development. You'll have significant influence in shaping our technical architecture and selecting the right tools and frameworks as we scale.You’ll join a small but growing technical team with significant autonomy to identify problems, design solutions, and implement them end-to-end. Your responsibilities will include

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Python / Node.js
• Architect efficient data flows, optimize complex queries, and design scalable schemas for high-volume data
• Drive technical decisions on frameworks, tools, and infrastructure as we scale our platform
• Build and optimize data pipelines and integrations with healthcare data sources
• Implement robust data security practices to ensure compliance and protect sensitive information
• Contribute to the architecture and scalability of our core platform
• Take ownership of projects from concept to implementation, emphasizing autonomy and accountability
• Collaborate closely with product and data teams to deliver new features and improvements
• Conduct thoughtful code reviews and mentor teammates on best practices
• Maintain the high engineering standards essential for healthcare, ensuring accuracy in patient outcomes and payment processing while maintaining HIPAA compliance

Skills we look for

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including query optimization, schema design, and data modeling
• Proficiency with Python
• Experience with data security best practices and compliance requirements
• NYC-based or able to commute 2–3 days per week
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
• Proven ability to work independently and solve ambiguous problems
• Excitement about helping define technical direction in a growing engineering organization

Bonus Points for: 

• Experience with data pipelines / ETL (e.g., Fivetran, dbt, Snowflake, Dagster)
• Previous experience in health tech or healthcare data systems
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools
• Exposure to startup environments
